3 Tips for Christmas Outfits for Holiday Pictures

It’s time to get ready for your family portraits! Let’s ease the pressure of having to get the family ready at the last minute. Preparing for our holiday photos can be stressful, but I am here to help you! Whether you have a family of two (2) or a family of 10, follow these 3 easy tips to help coordinate your best Christmas photos!

Easy Ideas for Coordinated Christmas Outfits

I’m all for wearing something comfortable to a photo shoot. Generally, something that fits well and is flattering is the best choice. Let’s make this easy. Matching outfits for Christmas don’t have to be complicated! Here are a few ideas that can work for any size group, age range, or environment.
Plaid attire

  • All black

  • Red or Green, or both!

  • Matching Santa hats

  • Jeans and sweaters

  • Pajamas

  • Fun matching props (e.g. reindeer ears)

Determine If You Want an Indoor or Outdoor Session

The weather can be tricky during the winter months… especially in Alabama! While determining what to wear, you should keep the weather in mind for your photo session. For example, Christmas outfits inside wouldn’t require warm wear, but if you’re outdoors you might want to consider something warm such as a coat or boots.

Because Alabama has its ups and downs during the winter months, it’s best to have a backup outfit if you’re considering having outdoor photos. One day it might be cold and on another it could be pretty warm!

Use Colors to Your Advantage

Colors play an essential role in keeping cohesion within a photo.

For example, you wouldn’t want everyone wearing different colors that don’t complement each other (unless that was the true goal for the session). You can choose to showcase one solid color, such as red or blue.

If you are opting for a color palette, make sure the colors sync with each other. For example, if the parents choose one color such as tan or red, make sure the children wear colors such as dark green or blue. This can be vice versa as well!

Choosing what to wear can be confusing for small children since there are so many choices! Read through these articles for more tips on styling children and newborns.
